Year R

Parents play an important role helping children learn. Listening to children read and helping them learn to read and ultimately write keywords can make a real difference to their progress.

The school uses the Jolly Phonics approach to teach the letter sounds in an enjoyable and multisensory way which enables children to use them to read and write words. The 42 main sounds of English, not just the alphabet, are taught in seven groups. Each sounds has an action, a song and story to help the children remember it as well as to make learning fun!

More information about Jolly Phonics can be found on their web-site.

In the foundation stage, children also develop their knowledge and understanding of the world. Children in Year R have watched caterpillars turn into butterflies and seeds germinate. This is Sarah's bean diary:
The school also places emphasis on the personal, social and emotional development of the children as well as the other aspects of the Foundation Curriculm.
