Language |  |
| We operate The Primary Strategy. Children are encouraged to listen carefully and speak with confidence. They read from a wide variety of appropriate books. Phonic skills and keywords are also taught. Writing is encouraged by developing emergent skills. Children learn spellings based on phonetic strategies and key words at home. Throughout the school we encourage excellence in handwriting and presentation. |

Science |
This is taught as scientific enquiry, life processes, materials and physical processes. Investigations are carried out, enabling the children to gather, analyse, and consider evidence. The school uses QCA scheme of work. |

Art |  |
| Children use a variety of mediums, materials and techniques and are introduced to famous artists. Artwork is displayed with pride around the school. Children enjoy making both 2 Dimensional and 3 Dimensional artefacts. |

History | History is taught in all classes. Children are encouraged to think and question. Primary and secondary sources are used to develop children's understanding of the past and how it influences the present. Children learn to evaluate from photographs, census returns and the Internet to argue their point of view. |

Geography |  |
| Geography looks at the natural and human world. Through the study of contrasting places and topics children develop skills and concepts. They are encouraged to hypotheses, analyse and develop decision-making skills. Geography inspires children to think about their place in the world. |

Music | Music is a strength of our school offering many opportunities for playing instruments. Our children love to sing. The children play in small music groups. There is a school production and all children participate. Some pupils attend the Cluster Concert. Performance is important and musicians are encouraged to take part in school concerts. |

Physical Education |  |
| Children develop individual and team skills and an awareness of health and fitness. Activities include dance, gymnastics, games sessions, outdoor activities, athletics and swimming. Coaches are employed for some specialised coaching. |

Collective Worship | Collective Worship takes place in the hall and offers an opportunity to re-affirm, interpret and put into practice the values of our school and to celebrate its achievements. Children are encouraged to think, feel and reflect. These assemblies have a strong spiritual dimension and children respond positively. |

| Parents have the right to withdraw children from Collective Worship should they wish and children will remain in a separate room. Please see the head teacher should you wish to consider this course of action. |

Celebration Assembly |  |
| Parents are encouraged to attend Celebration Assembly on a Friday morning at 8.45 approximately to celebrate with us. |

Religious Education | Religious Education covers Christianity, Judaism, Islam and Hinduism and gives children knowledge and understanding of different faiths and contributes towards their spiritual, personal and social development. Children may be withdrawn from this lesson should they be following religious teaching elsewhere. |

Sex Education |  |
| Year 5 pupils are taught basic health and hygiene and any sex education is taught within a family framework, but should you wish your child to be withdrawn please contact the headteacher. |

Information Technology |
A suite is available for the children to use, and the classes are supported with interactive whiteboards. Children use a variety of technologies across all subjects in the curriculum.
Children in Year 4 and 5 use laptops to support their learning. |

Technology |  |
| The QCA scheme is supplemented by a further scheme. Units cover work on mechanisms, food, structures, textiles, electrical and control. Children are encouraged to use designing and construction skills. |

Foundation Stage |
| Children who are pre-year 1 in Nursery and Reception will follow the Foundation Curriculum which comprises of the Early Learning Goals, which are: |

PSCHE and Citizenship |
| This is taught in all years using our own scheme of work incorporated with the government SEAL initiative.
