HOMEWORK POLICY

Aims of Homework

To develop a partnership between school and home to enhance the child's learning opportunities.
To acknowledge the important role which parents play in the education of their children.
To inform parents about the level of work which is being undertaken by their children.
To encourage children to develop good study habits.
To improve the children's general standard of education by practising basic skills and undertaking extension work where appropriate.
To provide opportunities for independent study.

Roles and Responsibilities.

Teachers

To set homework which is appropriate to the child.
To ensure that the homework is explained, marked and feedback is given.
To provide a homework timetable for the information of parents and pupils alike.

Parents

To support children in their homework encouraging increasing independence as they get older.
To give praise for the completion of homework.
To provide a suitable place for homework to be done.
To explain to the children that homework is valued and ensure that it is done on time and that deadlines are met. This is of increasing value, as the pupils get older.

Pupils

To ensure that homework is taken home and returned as required. {Young children will of course need considerable support in this area as they start homework}.
To ensure you always produce your best.

General Comments

Parents can discuss the appropriateness and relevance of homework with the class teacher.
Older pupils should be able to seek support from their teacher if and when they are unsure of a task given
Homework should be developmental.
All pupils need to read at home on a regular basis and this is a fundamental element of homework.
Weekly spellings form for all pupils except the youngest an important element of homework.
Homework for older pupils is done in a separate homework book.

Homework

Nursery	Nursery has a lending library and asks parents to support their Letter and Number Focus work.
Reception	Read regularly with an adult Learn Keywords / phonic sounds
Year 1	Read regularly with an adult - 4 times a week Learn Keywords weekly Learn spellings weekly
Year 2	Read regularly with an adult - 4 times a week. Learn Keywords and spellings weekly Literacy and Numeracy Work Timetables as appropriate
Years 3, 4 and 5	Read regularly with an adult, where appropriate Learn Keywords and spellings Literacy and Numeracy Work Timetables - weekly

Year 2 - 5 pupils will also have access to Year Support Books and these can be completed at home and advice sought from the Teacher where appropriate.
